What is the September Tree Quest?

Trees around us change with the seasons all the time – putting out leaves, flowers or fruits. Meanwhile, our seasons are changing because of climate change! How are trees responding? The September Tree Quest is an event to capture tree behavior across different regions – North, South, East-Northeast, and Western-Central – of India, in this quarter of 2019. When enough data on seasonal leafing, flowering and fruiting in trees has been collected, we can compare patterns within and between years to really understand what is changing and how.

The September Tree Quest (13-16 Sept 2019) is the third SeasonWatch bioblitz event this year. With this event, combined with the previous three events held in December 2018, March 2019 and June 2019, we will have the first complete annual seasonal calendar of some common trees of India from across the country

Are there prizes to be won?

Yes! In the spirit of communing with trees and nature over three days, we will not be giving prizes for top scores this time. Instead, we will use a lucky-draw to choose an individual and school from each region of the country. To qualify for the lucky draw you will need to observe 10 or more trees of at least one species on the SeasonWatch list.Everyone who qualifies for our lucky draw will receive a special mention in our Newsletter.

How many trees to monitor?

You can choose to do this for as many trees as you want and also on one or more days between the 13th and 16th of September 2019. You cannot repeat observations on the same tree more than once. If you participated in the Summer Tree Quest held in June, (if possible) do revisit the trees you reported the last time round and let us know if you saw any changes this season
